OldSchool Quiz Answers and Winners

We have our winners, and Blizzard has their names. It took just 22 hours and a surprising amount of wrong answers to finally reach our quota. Four readers got all five answers correctly and ironically, so did one that didn’t need the badge at all.

Without further ado, here are the answers:

1) Chances are, you are facing 1_COOL_GUY, also known as legato. A controversial player that actually had his account reset at the time.

n

2) At some point, the IN Clan was so successful that Theinclan.com was ranked #4 in Google for “clan”.

Members included INcinerate, INAgent911, INTillerman, INmogkupo, INMojo, INBob and many others… Some were there from the beginning, some were there towards the end.

n

3) The legendary service was Kali, whose logo adorned the competition’s post.

n

4) The League was called PGL, Professional Gamers League. Tillerman’s trading card is still being used in advanced shock therapy.

n

5) Tom Cadwell, aka Zileas. His economy-based analytical approach to RTS got him the BW Beta Championship title, as well as a job in Blizzard later down the road.

Congratulations to the winners. Hopefully, we will get to see you all on October 10th at Blizzcon!

The official BlizzCon 2008 site is up. The site currently contains information about the panels that will take place during the convention, and will be used to release updates and information pertaining to the upcoming mega-event. Most importantly, however, this is where wishful fans can purchase tickets.
What is BlizzCon, you ask?

In addition to serving as a gathering place for the different Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, BlizzCon will offer an array of activities, including discussion panels, hands-on playtime with upcoming games, tournaments, contests, and more.

The event is going to take place on Blizzard’s home turf, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on October 10 and 11. Until then, anxious enthusiasts may take a sneak peak at the swag bag that each visitor will receive upon entering the premises of the convention:

BlizzCon

If you’ve ever been on the verge of finishing off a paladin, only to be foiled at the last second, you’ll appreciate the 16″ inflatable divine shield ball, complete with a paladin inside in the midst of hearthing away. Half of the goody bags handed out will contain the bubble-hearth ball, while the other half will have…

n

Frostmourne. The very name of Arthas’s runeblade strikes terror into hearts across Azeroth. Now it comes to you in a more convenient package, and you don’t even have to travel to Icecrown Glacier to get it. As you go about your daily activities, whether they be raising legions of the undead or just brooding on your throne, carrying this 48” inflatable Frostmourne will grant you an extra touch of sinister majesty.

Aside from the goody bag, fans will also have access to the on-site store, which will feature all sorts of Blizzard game-related products – Diablo health and mana stress balls, pandaren brewmaster bottle openers, Zerg Creep, and much more.

Mounted MurlocOf course, no Blizzard event will be complete without a Murloc, and this one is going to be special:

This one has developed a taste for speed, and sits astride an exclusive polar bear mount, waving a BlizzCon flag. It’s the perfect way to cruise Northrend in style.

Blizzcon 2008 Tickets on Sale August 11

BlizzCon 2008 is fast approaching, and tickets to the event will soon be available for purchase. Hot on the heels of Blizzard’s recent mega-event, the World Wide Invitational, BlizzCon is going to be another stage where Blizzard will exhibit the latest developments to its games. Hopefully, StarCraft 2 will get more exposure this time around, like it did on last year’s BlizzCon.

What else can be expected from the event?

In addition to serving as a gathering place for the different Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, BlizzCon will offer an array of activities, including discussion panels, hands-on playtime with upcoming games, tournaments, contests, and more.

BlizzCon

The event is going to take place on Blizzard’s home turf, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on October 10 and 11. For those who can’t make it or can’t afford the admission price, the event will be televised using DIRECTV pay per view in high definition.

“Meeting and interacting with our players at BlizzCon is always a great experience for us,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re also pleased to be working with DIRECTV this year to bring the show, for the first time, to those players who are unable to attend.”

Tickets for the convention will cost $100 each, and will be available for purchase on the official BlizzCon website. Pricing for existing DIRECTV customers and programming details will be available in the coming weeks from Blizzard Entertainment and DIRECTV.

The Beta Key is Not for StarCraft 2

Blizzard’s World Wide Invitational 2008 swag bag included a very promising item – a beta key for an unknown Blizzard game. Blizzard’s fans split into two camps at this point – the hopeless, lifelesss WoW addicts which claimed the beta key to be for World of WarCraft’s Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and the awesome, intelligent and handsome StarCraft fans who have decreed that the key is a clear sign that the StarCraft 2 beta is near.

Wrath of the Lich King

Today, Blizzard has officially announced that he beta key is for Wrath of the Lich King and not StarCraft 2.

We have some information to share regarding the beta codes received by those who attended the 2008 Worldwide Invitational or the 2007 BlizzCon. These codes are going to be used for the Wrath of the Lich King beta test.

If you do have a beta code from one of these events, we urge you to register it immediately and without delay. Full details on how to register your code can be found at the following page:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/misc/beta-signup.html

Despite the fact that StarCraft 2 is not as close as some might have imagined due to the recently received key, hopefully fans will not have to wait for WWI 09 to get their hands on the beta.

Blizzard WorldWide Invitational: It Has Began

This year’s Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational is special – Blizzard has merged with Activision, StarCraft 2 is playable and approaching Beta status, Diablo 3 is going to be revealed and Wrath of the Lich King has been in the barrel for a year.

Three Universes are undergoing major changes, and 2008’s WWI is a great place and time for announcements. A lot of hype surrounds the event, partly due to the fact that Blizzard has been playing with the gamers’ minds over the last 5 days via a changing splash screen which can easily be a teaser for any of the three games.

The image can turn out to look Protoss, Lich King or even Diablo, so not only has Blizzard not revealed anything, but the Internet has been flooded with fan-made images of the eventual result.

UPDATE: Regardless of the purpose of the splash screen, Diablo 3 has been officially announced – head over to Blizzard’s site for the hot intro.

Diablo3

But SC2Blog is first of all a SC2 Blog, and WWI has to deliver only one thing to make the effort, money and time spent worth it – the much anticipated StarCraft 2 Beta key.
